This article uncovers the general misunderstandings of the 144,000 by showing the truth, as presented by the Bible and the authentic Spirit of Prophecy.

First, we will cover some ground to ensure we are both on the same page.

I use the KJV Bible, only. There are over 5,200 documents relating to the Bible, extant today, and 99.992% of them are in perfect harmony with the KJV. There are 44 documents that are not in harmony with the KJV and virtually all the other translations are founded on those. I call them, “Defiled Bread,” or, “counterfeit bibles.”

I use only proven, authentic Spirit of Prophecy materials. With my own eyes, I have seen the original Testimonies, and most of the other books, though not all. I am a steward of an original, leather bound 1858 Great Controversy providentially given to my care by God.

A line of demarcation has been drawn between the authentic Spirit of Prophecy and the counterfeit, at the date of James White’s death, August 6, 1881. As with all counterfeiting operations there are variances that need to be accounted for. The date should be understood as a guideline, as there are counterfeits that have been discovered prior to that date.

In the authentic Testimony No. 20, page 44, God, the true author, tells us that the Testimonies are similar to the Bible, using these words; “God has been please to give you line upon line, and precept upon precept;” this is exactly like Isaiah 28:13. In part, this means that we must move between it’s different parts, just like the Bible, to get a clear understanding.

With these things in mind we turn to the very first publication of the first vision God gave to his church in 1846, The DayStar, and find these words.

They [those who left the Advent faith] fell all the way along the path one after another, until we heard the voice of God like many waters, which gave us the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. The living saints, 144,000, in number, know and understand the voice, while the wicked thought it was thunder & and earthquake.

For a proper understanding, these two sentences must be known as the first line and precept that must be upon the next line and precept. These we find in the 1858 Great Controversy, page 205.

But there was one clear place of settled glory, from whence came the voice of God, like many waters, which shook the heavens and the earth. There was a mighty earthquake. The graves were shaken open, and those who had died in faith under the third angel's message, keeping the Sabbath, came forth from their dusty beds, glorified, to hear the covenant of peace that God was to make with those who had kept his law.

And as God spake the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivered the everlasting covenant to his people, he spake one sentence, and then paused, while the words were rolling through the earth. The Israel of God stood with their eyes fixed upwards, listening to the words as they came from the mouth of Jehovah, and rolled through the earth like peals of loudest thunder. p. 205, Para. 3, [1SG ].

Now that we have the other line, and the other precept, we gain a clear, correct understanding of the origin of the 144,000. By comparing these two lines and precepts, we see a clear connection in the words perfectly reproduced in both, “the voice of God, like many waters.”

By a careful reading of what occurs after this phrase, we see that in both lines, in each precept, the Father announces the day and hour of Jesus’ coming. In the second is additional information not given in the first, but it is the same exact event.

We find two items of interest. First, the Father calls from the grave “those who had died in faith under the third angel's message, keeping the Sabbath.” Second, God proclaims a “covenant of peace” which he makes with the 144,000.

And it is only after this special resurrection that they are called, “The living saints, 144,000, in number.”

The other large question in the minds of many deals with the sealing of the 144,000. In order to answer this question properly, we again are pointed to God’s plan of “line upon line, precept upon precept” for a correct understanding.

I then saw the third angel. Said my accompanying angel, “Fearful is his work. Awful is his mission. He is the angel that is to select the wheat from the tares, and seal or bind the wheat for the heavenly garner. These things should engross the whole mind, the whole attention.” p. 38, Para. 3, [SUPCEV].

So it is the third angel of Revelation 14 that is to do the sealing. Many are not aware that this angel began his work October 23, 1844 with the vision given to Hiram Edson in the cornfield. We have further confirmation of this from Testimony No. 23, page 22, in these words, “Especially in the closing work for the church, [God’s true church] in the sealing time of the one hundred and forty-four thousand, who are to stand without fault before the throne of God,....”

And another item.

An angel returned from the earth with a writer's inkhorn by his side, and reported to Jesus that his work was done, that the saints were numbered and sealed. Then I saw Jesus, who had been ministering before the ark containing the ten commandments, throw down the censer. He raised his hands upward, and with a loud voice said, It is done. 1858 Great Controversy, p. 197.

To summarize, from these passages we find that the 144,000 count started with the third angel’s message, on October 23, 1844, and that probation will end when that count is completed.

At this point it is appropriate that we address the subject of the various angels that represent or illustrate, the 144,000 and their work. There are several.

The first five are found in Revelation 14, verses 6, 8, 9, 15 & 18. We have confirmation of the first four, but not of the fifth, –yet.

I was shown that the third angel proclaiming the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, represents the people who receive this message and raise the voice of warning to the world, to keep the commandments of God and his law as the apple of the eye, and that in response to this warning many would embrace the Sabbath of the Lord." p. 236, Para. 3, [LS80].

From this passage we can easily see that the first and second angels are also representative of the people who receive the message and raise the cry.

For the fourth angel we have this.

Then Jesus will have the sharp sickle in his hand, (Rev. 14:14) and then the saints will cry day and night to Jesus on the cloud, to thrust in his sharp sickle and reap. This, will be the time of Jacob's trouble, (Jer. 30:5-8) out of which, the saints will be delivered by the voice of God. p. 12 [WLF].

Then we have “other angels” of an unknown count, found on page 154 of the 1858 Great Controversy.

Jesus commissioned other angels to fly quickly to revive and strengthen the drooping faith of his people, and prepare them to understand the message of the second angel, and of the important move which was soon to be made in heaven. I saw these angels receive great power and light from Jesus, and fly quickly to earth to fulfill their commission to aid the second angel in his work. p. 154, Para. 2, [1SG ].

It is thought that these other angels also are used to illustrate the work of those who were to become the first of the 144,000, the first of the church of Philadelphia.

William Miller is a special case. He was the one who began the sounding of the first angel’s messages, but he did not accept the Sabbath. Page 168 of the 1858 Great Controversy says plainly....

God suffered him [William Miller] to come under the power of Satan, and death to have dominion over him. He hid him in the grave, away from those who were constantly drawing him from God. Moses erred just as he was about to enter the promised land. So also, I saw that Wm. Miller erred as he was soon to enter the heavenly Canaan, in suffering his influence to go against the truth. Others led him to this. Others must account for it. But angels watch the precious dust of this servant of God, and he will come forth at the sound of the last trump. p. 168, Para. 1, [1SG ].

The last trump is the one Christ blows to resurrect the great multitude.

We all in solemn silence gazed on the cloud as it drew nearer, lighter, and brighter, glorious, and still more glorious, till it was a great white cloud. The bottom appeared like fire, a rainbow was over it, around the cloud were ten thousand angels singing a most lovely song. And on it sat the Son of Man, on his head were crowns, his hair was white and curly and lay on his shoulders. His feet had the appearance of fire, in his right hand was a sharp sickle, in his left a silver trumpet. His eyes were as a flame of fire, which searched his children through and through. Then all faces gathered paleness, and those that God had rejected gathered blackness. Then we all cried out, who shall be able to stand? Is my robe spotless? Then the angels ceased to sing, and there was some time of awful silence, when Jesus spoke, Those who have clean hands and a pure heart shall be able to stand, my grace is sufficient for you. At this, our faces lighted up, and joy filled every heart. And the angels struck a note higher and sung again while the cloud drew still nearer the earth. Then Jesus' silver trumpet sounded, as he descended on the cloud, wrapped in flames of fire. He gazed on the graves of the sleeping saints then raised his eyes and hands to heaven & cried out, Awake! Awake! Awake! ye that sleep in the dust, and arise.

This means that William Miller will be a part of the great multitude that no man can number and not a part of the 144,000; for they are already living, watching Christ resurrect the rest of the saints.

Here is what the counterfeit SOP has to say.

It is not His will that they shall get into controversy over questions which will not help them spiritually, such as, Who is to compose the hundred and forty-four thousand. This those who are the elect of God will in a short time know without question. {2NL 164.4} Notebook Leaflets

Let us strive with all the power that God has given us to be among the hundred and forty-four thousand (RH March 9, 1905). {7BC 970.10}

We do not recommend that you study the counterfeit SOP, it is dangerous to your spiritual health.

Other matter will be added from time to time.
